Three Little Soldiers - Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge 16

Hi everyone and welcome everyone. It has been an absolute age since I got the briefest of chances to create something for Linda Ledbetter's Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge and even for this one I'm in by the skin of my teeth, again! CC 3 Challenge 16 is all about Tim Holtz' "Layering Stencils: Embossing" technique and if you want to know what that is you'll have to get the Compendium. Sorry, but them's is the rules!! For the winner of this challenge there's a wonderful parcel of goodies from Tim and Mario themselves, and Linda Coughlin from The Funkie Junkie Boutique has also generously sponsored this round of the challenge. So this is what I created...

Before using the technique I took a leaf out of Tim's book from his October 2014 tag and stamped the pine needles in Watering Can and Fern Green Archival Inks. That meant I could use the stencil technique around the stamping. Rather than use Distress Ink I added Antique Linen Distress Spray Stain for that beautiful mottled look (gosh I love this stuff so much!)

Having edged the background with Gathered Twigs I layered on Kraft Core 'Holiday Greens' die cuts and splattered them with Festive Berries Distress Paint. I wanted to add Christmas tree ornaments, but rather than use baubles again the toy soldiers seemed like a good idea. By stamping them on kraft card and painting them with Distress Paint I could clear emboss them to look like those little varnished versions we pull out each year to hang on a little tree in the window. 'Hung' with red coloured ball chain they added some much needed shine to match the background.

Right, off to link this up to the CC3 Challenge 16 before time is up. I'll be back again tomorrow with my regular post for IndigoBlu and hope you can join me again then. In the meantime have a great weekend and, whatever you're up to, take care of yourselves. Jenny xxx

  2. Jenny
I absolutely love the notion of the Nutcracker Soldiers as Christmas ornaments hanging from the tree.
They pop so beautifully against your background.

  3. Jenny...please, no apologies for not coming by the blog more often. I am the worst at getting around to blogs! Your card is so amazing. I love your background. The already vintage looking cream paper looks so old. Then your added layers if the green and red dots are such a subtle, wonderful look! Your little blueprint soldiers are awesome on this card. I love how you have used them here!! Thanks for sharing your art with us at CC3C. <3 Candy
