The Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas - Tag 4

Hi everyone. The relentless pace of playing catch up continues as I work my way through The Funkie Junkie 12 Tags of Christmas challenge set by the Funkie Junkie herself, Linda Coughlin. And this challenge, sponsored by The Funkie Junkie Boutique, has just got a whole heap more interesting for those taking part. Linda is adding a two further tags with a thank you theme and extended the deadline to January 8th 2014. Everyone who successfully completes all 14 will get a 15% discount coupon to use at The Funkie Junkie Boutique. Plus three gift certificates will be awarded in a random draw. How tempting is that! Like me, you don't have to create tags. They can be Christmas decorations, banners, scrapbook layouts, etc. as long as they've been inspired by elements on each of Linda's tags. For full details hop on over HERE. Right, time for the card inspired by Tag 4...

I loved Linda's 4th tag (something about those colours) and I played with a lot of the ideas in my mind before creating this.

I've already had lots of fun using the Maja Design 'It's Christmas Time' collection in other projects (like my gift cards, neutral Christmas card, and Christmas tree) so it was always going to be the starting point for this card, as it was for Linda's tag.

They take inks and stains so well, and cope brilliantly when embossing paste is applied or water is spritzed on them. This sheet already included the little baubles, some pine needles and a border in the design so I very much went with it, adding Glossy Accents to the little baubles and die cut festive greenery to the ink distressed edges.

I loved Linda's use of Iced Spruce coloured embossing paste so, using the same colour paint  I duly added different layers/amounts to each stencilled bauble. When dry it looked didn't work as well, so I painted Brushed Pewter Distress Paint over the dried baubles before stamping each one in Archival Ink with the heart design from one of Wendy Vecchi's stamp sets.

Having drawn on the little ribbons using a Distress Marker, I returned to Linda's tag for more inspiration. The burlap squares looked so good and if you apply tape to the back of it you can die cut the most intricate shapes (or in this case letters).

Repeating a motif from the last card I cut out some of the roses from the lace strip and coloured them with Distress Stains to echo more of Linda's chosen colour scheme. To finish it was just a case of matting/layering the panel and stamping/adding the sentiment to the card.

That's four down (one for you still to see) and a fifth is now well under way. It must be said having such a great source of initial inspiration is really helpful when getting to that mid-completion dip in ideas that so often bugs me.
Thank you again for your lovely comments. Hope you can join me next time for number five. Take care of yourselves, Jenny xxx

  12. Holy moly, Jenny, this completely took my breath away! I just adore everything about this - the design focusing on the baubles is sensational and they came out so beautiful with the embossing paste and stamping. You did wonders with evergreen from the Festive Greenery die and while I love burlap and use it frequently, I never thought to apply clear tap to the back to keep it from separating. I always use multi medium but the tape idea sounds so much easier and less messy. And the way you colored the Venise lace is fantastic - love the way you used it here too. You have created such a gorgeous card!

    Hugs,
    Linda
